Seedlings and Sunflowers: EXTREME FUNDRAISER MAKEOVER

Well - we've hit another SNAFU! According to the local paper - "raffles are illegal in KS". We have received notices from some concerned citizens and so I have carefully looked into the matter.

The LAWYER in me:

read the actual statute in the KS- Statues and cannot reasonably see where we are breaking the law...however...other's interpretations and explanations of this statute would claim KS has a right to ban such money making events. Believe it or not - only four states have this law, and KS is one of them. Again, the lawyer in me would love to take this on!

The SPY/REBEL in me:

says "Let's do it anyway!" "No one knows" "They can't be serious" "Surely this doesn't apply to us"

HOWEVER MY CONCLUSION: is that we are going to revamp this fundraiser. Why? Because of the definitions in the statute. Because of the "consideration" being giving for the "chance" to be a winner - the statute describes a raffle as "gambling". whoa. Now, Tim and I have a BIG problem with gambling!!! We have seen first hand the effects that this addiction can have on a family and how it can destroy lives. This is not to say that we think our little fundraiser will feed anyone's addiction, but we don't want it to be connected with such terms or definitions - even by the state of KS! After some prayer and discussion, Tim and I have decided to change the guidelines of this last fundraiser.

METHOD TO OUR MADNESS : to begin with, the reason for this fundraiser was to allow anyone who wanted to help to be able to do so. We wanted strangers, friends, little children, friends of our children to be able to contribute any amount to our adoption and feel like they were helping. We just randomly came up with the $5 amount. We also had some sweet people donate items to us and there was no agenda on their part other then to help. We feel we can change the guidelines and name of our fundraiser and still have the same end result.

NEW RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR OUR FUNDRAISER

We are accepting donations for our adoption. You can donate any amount.....$1-1,000. It is up to you!

We have some amazing prizes that we are going to draw for at the end of these two weeks.

PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW MANY TICKETS YOU'D LIKE!

For example: you can donate $10.00 for 10 tickets, or donate $100.00 for 1 ticket.
You can even have a ticket for FREE! If you'd like some tickets with your name on them to be placed in our drawing let us know.

You may donate ANY amount to our adoption.
You may request ANY amount of tickets for our drawing

Please note ----we still have the 3 categories of prizes. When you request your tickets - let us know how many you'd like in each category!

(Unless otherwise indicated by the participant - we will allocate 1 ticket per each family/person that donates and place it in the best category for that participant that we deem appropriate) ---too funny--but true!
